I was doing some research the other day on millennial trends, specifically millennial parents. There seems to be a trend right now where DIY is dominating the birthday-sphere. No longer are parents renting bounce houses for their kids. They’re not even going to Chuck E. Cheese’s.
It’s apparently cool now to choose a Star Wars, Lego, or Frozen birthday theme and build everything from scratch. The cake, the cups, table cloth, decor, costumes, everything is DIY and if your kid isn’t decked out in this gear, other parents are talking crap about you and questioning your parenting skills.
It’s stressing people out so much that parents who aren’t crafty are paying other people to make this shit for them. I’m not joking. Just check out this Etsy search. But isn’t this kind of ironic? Buying DIY stuff premade.. (Or maybe it’s not. I guess it’s similar to cake mixes where you’re “baking” but really you’re just adding eggs and water).
After they throw the party, they post the pictures on social media to share/brag about what great parents they are. And the parents who don’t have the time, money, or craft skills for a DIY theme party are left feeling like crap.
Hi, I’m a millennial and I don’t want to be a parent.
